The AAUW Greater Wayne Area (GWA) branch held its second annual Girls Hall of Fame induction ceremony recently at the Wayne Public Library. This award honors girls between the ages of 12-18 who have demonstrated outstanding leadership of legacy projects that make a difference within their local community or the world-wide community. Inducted this year were Anabel Martinez who resides in Paterson and is a junior at Passaic County Technical Institute in Wayne, Erica Radler who resides in Wayne and is a freshman at Wayne Hills High School; and Stephanie Reifman who resides in Upper Saddle River and is a sophomore at Northern Highlands Regional High School in Allendale. Each girl received a citation from AAUW GWA and each is a permanent member of the AAUTW Girls Hall of Fame. In addition, the girls were presented with official citations from the towns in which they live.

Reifman Developed the H.A.P.P.Y. Week program to raise awareness about heroin addiction. in 2013, Reifman was devastated by the death of one of her favorite actors, Glee star Cory Monteith, due to a heroin overdose. When she learned that heroin was an epidemic right in her own backyard, she decided to take action and created H.A.P.P.Y. Week, an acronym for Heroin Addiction Prevents People’s Years. A recovering heroin addict and a parent who lost his or her child to heroin addiction participate in teh delivery of the program. Reifman continues to present her program in local middle and high school and hopes to present in schools beyond the Bergen County area and eventually, across the U.S. In addition to her Girls Hall of Fame award, Reifman received a letter of recognition from Upper Saddle River Mayor Joanne Minichetti.
